Swedish or Classic Massage has become the standard in clinics and spas throughout the Western world and has spread to spas in the East, where many of its standard techniques have been combined with the local traditional healing methods. The techniques used in Swedish massage have become the standard in classical massage.

Swedish massage allows the body to absorb more oxygen, thereby rejuvenating the body. It is also geared towards detoxification by increasing the speed by which the cells of the body eliminate their waste materials. Swedish massage brings to the receiver an immense feeling of satisfaction and relaxation.

Massage therapists usually receive initial training in Swedish massage techniques as part of their certification and licensing processes. To maintain professional certification, therapists must take continuing education courses (CPD) and may elect to progress to more advanced forms of massage.
