Ayurveda (Abhyanga) Body Massage is traditionally performed with medicated herbal oils chosen according to the patient’s Dosha. It consists of long strokes, mainly using the full palm, with pressure added to all the strokes which follow the direction of blood flow. The client is usually discouraged from using a head pillow to promote smoother circulation. The massage is centred on the body’s Panca Karma or “belly”.
Abhyanga is an integral part of the daily routine recommended by the Ayurveda healing system for overall health and well-being. It nourishes the body, balances the Doshas, relieves fatigue and provides stamina, pleasure and perfect sleep. It also enhances the complexion and the lustre of the skin, promotes longevity and nourishes all parts of the body.
